Description
|
The Northern region of the country is especially rich in wine growing
districts, presents a colorful wine palette to gourmand: from the light white
through the full-bodied red to the naturally sweet wines. Wine growing appeared
in Eger region as early as the 11th century and Tokaj wine was well-know and
very popular already in 12th century. King Luis XIV, Cromwell, Tsar Alexander
the Great and Tsarina Catherine were all lovers of the Tokaji Aszú, the "Winum
regnum rex vinorum". The Tokaj Wine Region Historic Cultural Landscape is a World Heritage site

Itinerary
|

1st day:
|
|
Arriving in Budapest. We start our tour at Mátraalja, Hungary’s largest historic wine region. The lovers of sweet, aromatic white wines with fine acidity can find here a real paradise.
|
|
The wines of the Rizlingszilváni, Olaszrizling (Italian Rizling), Hárslevelű ( Linden-Leaf), Ottonel Muscatel, Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc grapes are ranked amongst the country’s best. We will visit the largest wine-cellars of the Mátraalja wine region and can admire the Nagyréde museum cellar. We continue our tour in Eger to enjoy our dinner with game specialties and wine tasting in one of the fine restaurants in the town.

2nd day:

Today we take part in a guided walking tour in the city center and will visit the historic castle of Eger, where a small Hungarian army stopped the Turks in 1552. Our after lunch visit the wine cellar of Egervin will combine consultation and wine tasting. The company preserves a stock of museum wines . Their millennium vintage of Egri Bikavér ( Bull’s Blood of Eger ), made from the wines of the Region’s 119 wine producers.

3rd day:
|
|
This morning after breakfast: we will take part in a professional program. We will study the winegrowing techniques of the region, visit a privately owned wine cellar and of course taste wine.
|
|
We can not leave out the popular Valley of the Beautiful Women (Szépasszony Völgye) with lots of cellars and taverns hollowed into the porous volcanic rock. Numerous local restaurants serving a wide range of dishes designed to complement the wines of Eger.

4 th day:

After breakfast traveling to Tokaj. As we arrive in the edge of the wine district we see the interesting building of „Disznókő” Winery, which was one of the first and
|
|
most valuable investment of the region. On the confines of Tokaj we can find the vineyards of the „Hétszőlő” winery replanted at the beginning of the nineties.
|
|
Investors are trying to meet the challenge of the future with continuous wine re-plantation as well as with the establishment of a new processing plant. After tasting good wines , it is always a pleasure to step into a restaurant where we can assuage hunger with the specialties of the region.

5th day:

The next station on our trip is Sárospatak, the most important spiritual center of the region. Visit The Calvinist College and the Castle. Tasting the fine , prize winning wines in the Rákóczi Cellar.

6th day:
|
|
Follow Sátoraljaújhely is located a few kilometer away. Characteristic, traditional-style Aszú wines are bottled here. The town is the ecological boundary of Aszú wine production. Museum wines also preserved here. After launch travel to Budapest. Overnight in our hotel.

7th day:
|
|
Transfer to the airport.
|
